Violin

Sam Meyer is a Vancouver-based musician who recently graduated with honours from UBC, where he studied orchestral trumpet performance with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra principal Larry Knopp. He enjoys working in music, and regularly plays for private events and local churches. Sam loves teaching, helping to instill in his students a passion for music and seeing their enthusiasm grow with their progress.

It is a continuing interest of his to find ways to engage, motivate, and communicate with students regardless of whether they are a beginner adult, a more advanced youth, or anything in between. Sam started music on the violin, which he began playing after being enamoured by cassettes of children’s stories about Vivaldi and Handel.

After studying with a member of the VSO violin section, he has continued to play violin throughout his trumpet degree, performing with the UBC orchestra and learning about various fiddling traditions. Sam enjoys researching Celtic music in his free time, as well as biking, backpacking, and learning Dutch.
